Newport Convertible Engineering fills the void left by Dodge with their custom Challenger convertible being shown at this years SEMA show. The Newport Challenger convertible will be available to be ordered through dealers nationwide with the build taking four to six weeks to complete. To maintain the stiffness in the chasiss, Newport will add about 80 pounds of reinforcement to the roof pillar supports, trunk, rear seat area and undercarriage. Dealer cost for this Challenger convertible is $14,500 so expect the retail price to be much higher. This convertible can be seen at Newport’s booth at SEMA in the North Hall, #11627.
This will be the second Challenger convertible making it’s debut at SEMA with the other being done by Coach Builders Ltd, well three if you count the topless SRT8 Roadster.

Another vehicle from Mopar, the Dodge Challenger Targa nicknamed “Samantha” is a full-blown competition car that raced and completed the infamous Targa Newfoundland race. “Samantha” started life as a Mopar Challenger drag race package car with most of the features coming from the Dodge Viper. The most noticeable feature has to be the snakeskin green paint which is not an original color to the Challenger . Under the hood lurks a 392 HEMI V8 Mopar crate motor producing 540 horsepower and 490 lb. of torque. The motor is mated to a Tremec six-speed manual gearbox, the engine blasts power to the rear wheels through a production 2009 modified gear ratio in the rear end.
Stopping this beast comes by way of Stop Tech brakes in the form of the six-piston calipers clamping 380 millimetre rotors, while in the rear, four pot calipers work with 355 mm rotors. Another unique feature includes a Mopar chin spoiler developed in a full scale wind tunnel to keep the front end down at high speeds. The race suspension and brake upgrades developed by KW came from a proven hero the Dodge Viper ACR, which just broke the production car lap record at the world renown Nurburgring in Germany. This goes to show you what Mopar parts can do to an otherwise stock Dodge Challenger.

Dodge will be well represented at this year’s SEMA show with at least three custom Challengers we know of including the above vehicle, the Challenger Blacktop courtesy of the Mopar underground design team. The Dodge Challenger Blacktop began life as a 2009 Dodge Challenger R/T equipped with a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 and six-speed manual transmission. The Mopar Underground design team added custom made spoilers and front brow. To give the Challenger a menacing look a black-on-black racing stripe paint scheme was added. The lowered stance and superb handling characteristics are accomplished by the Mopar coil-over suspension and strut tower brace. The Challenger Blacktop rolls on massive 22-inch Dodge Viper wheels from Factory Reproductions wrapped in Dunlop tires measuring 265/35 R22 front and 305/30 R22 rear. To ensure the powertrain can keep up with the suspension, underhood performance is enhanced. The addition of Mopar components, including a cat back dual-exhaust, cold air intake, allow the HEMI V8 to breathe easy. The interior has been enhanced with Katzkin leather seating finished in bright red plus a Mopar Kicker audio system for premium sound.
Looks like this will be one bad azz Challenger. High-res photo after the jump…

The 2008 SEMA show is shaping up to be really big for the Dodge Challenger and it just got bigger with news that a viper powered Challenger SRT10 concept will make it’s debut. The Challenger SRT10 concept is a one-of-a-kind vehicle from the great minds over at SRT engineering. The Challenger comes with the Dodge Viper 8.4-liter, all-aluminum V-10 engine with 600 horsepower and 560 lb. ft. of torque. The Challenger SRT10 Concept includes a fresh coat of Tornado Red paint with a carbon-fiber deck lid and hood. The “shaker hood” is a nostalgic representation of the 1970 HEMI Cuda, giving the 600-hp Viper V10 engine room to breathe. Brakes have been upgraded and BILSTEIN shocks at all four corners improve handling balance. The interior boasts sport seats and carbon-fiber accents throughout and a red engine start push-button in the dash.
Could this be the answer to the Shelby GT500 or is this just another tease from Dodge?

At the Detroit Autorama this past weekend Dodge brought another Super Stock Dodge Challenger to the show and this one is painted in matte black to give it a sinister look and feel. Just like the previous Super Stock which was unveiled at the SEMA show back in November this Super Stock comes with a 6.4 liter fule-injected Hemi utilizing 10.5:1 compression, twin plug cylinder heads, forged pistons, a forged crankshaft and forged connecting rods to produce 525 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. This Super Stock has a live axle and leaf springs if you can believe that but don’t fret because the production Dodge Challenger will have independent rear suspension.
