In recent crash tests the 2009 Dodge Challenger earned 5-star safety ratings, the highest ratings in the US government’s safety crash test program. The ratings included driver and front passenger protection in a frontal crash along with rear-passenger side impact protection.
“Safety is a top priority in all Chrysler vehicles, and the all-new 2009 Dodge Challenger features the latest in safety and security features providing our customers with the peace of mind they want and expect,” said Larry Lyons, Vice President – Car and Minivan Product Team.

The Los Angeles Times set up an impromptu drag race in the Rose Bowl parking lot between the Dodge EV and the Challenger SRT8. The Dodge EV is powered by a 268-hp electric motor and 26 kWh Li-ion battery. The Challenger SRT8 is powered by a 6.1-liter HEMI V8 producing 425 horsepower. The results were not very shocking given the weight and torque of the Dodge EV as it won hands down and embarrassed the Challenger SRT8. At over 4000 lbs. the Challenger SRT8 is one of the heaviest sports cars around while the Dodge EV is in the range of 2500 lbs.

The 2008 SEMA Show is going on right now in Las Vegas with vendors from all over the world showing off the latest gadgets, products and accessories for the automotive aftermarket. With this being the first year the Dodge Challenger is available to be shown at SEMA you know their will be some pretty radical Challenger creations from various vendors. The 2009 Mopar Drift Dodge Challenger will make it’s debut tomorrow at SEMA with most of the other Challengers but we have come across photos of the car before the launch. The photos are not the best quality but you can see what the vehicle will look like. The Cragar Challenger SRT8 will debut at SEMA in a few days to showcase new products offered by Cragar for the Dodge Challenger. The Cragar Challenger will be equipped with 22″ CRAGAR S/S 1-piece aluminum wheels, CRAGAR catback exhaust, a CRAGAR twin-turbo setup good for 690 hp and 747 ft. lbs, and possibly a carbon fiber hood and trunk. Classic Design Concepts will have a pair of Challenger’s at this year’s SEMA show debuting their new Wide Body conversion kit. The wide body conversion kit consists of composite front fenders and “Billboard” rear flares with restyled wheel arches to accomadate an increased tire width.
